How to calculate the allowable pull force and breaking force of stainless steel wire rope

When the stainless steel wire rope is used as a bearing key component, it is necessary to ensure the lifting safety and calculate the allowable tensile force and breaking tensile force so as to ensure that the carrying load is within the allowable range. So how do we calculate for these two parameters? The new century has summarized the following two formulas for everyone.

Stainless steel wire

We call the ratio of breaking force and allowable pull force the safety factor, which is denoted by K. In the formula K—the safety factor of the steel wire rope; Sb—the breaking tensile force of the wire rope (kN); P—the allowable tension (kN) of the steel wire rope.

According to the use of the wire rope, the K value is also different. Generally, the wire rope used for the crane has K=5.5, and the manual lifting equipment (such as the reverse chain) has K=4.5. The breaking force of the steel wire rope is more complicated in calculation. The state has standardized management of the wire rope's specifications and tensile strength, so it can be estimated by the following empirical formula:

Stainless steel wire

The allowable pull force of the stainless steel wire rope is the force that the steel wire rope is allowed to withstand under the safe conditions for lifting. In order to ensure safe and reliable lifting, the new century also reminds the operator that the wire rope cannot be broken. Therefore, the breaking force must be several times larger than the allowable pull force to ensure its complete reliability.
