Identify the material of stainless steel wire mesh

Stainless steel wire mesh is used in our daily life, such as the common trolley baskets and chains on popular ladies bags. Or it is formed by making stainless steel wire mesh for roasting meat. What are the distinguishing methods of stainless steel wire material? Shop for your stainless steel wire.

There are several ways to distinguish the material of stainless steel wire mesh. There are several methods of magnetic test method, nitric acid point test method, copper sulfate point test method, and sulfuric acid test method. The specific performance is as follows:

Nitric acid point test method

A significant feature of stainless steel wire is its inherent corrosion resistance to concentrated nitric acid and dilute nitric acid. This property makes it easy to distinguish from most other metals or alloys. However, high-carbon 420 and 440 steels were slightly corroded during the nitric acid spot test. Non-ferrous metals were corroded immediately when they encountered concentrated nitric acid, and dilute nitric acid was strongly corrosive to carbon steel.

Magnetic test method

The magnetic test method is a more common simple method to distinguish austenitic stainless steel from ferritic stainless steel.Austenitic stainless steel is non-magnetic steel, but after cold working under high pressure, it will have mild magnetic properties; while pure chrome steel and Low alloy steels are all ferromagnetic steels.

Sulfuric acid test

Sulfuric acid immersion stainless steel can distinguish 302 and 304 from 316 and 317. The cut edges of the sample are finely ground, and then washed and passivated in sulfuric acid with a volume concentration of 20% to 30% and a temperature of 60 to 66 ° C for half an hour. The volume concentration of the sulfuric acid solution is 10% and heated to 71 ° C. When 302 and 304 were immersed in the solution, the steel was quickly corroded and a large number of bubbles were generated, and the sample became black within a few minutes; while the samples of 316 and 317 steel were not corroded or very slow (no bubbles were generated) The test does not change color within 10-15 minutes. The test can be made more accurate if a sample with known composition is tested simultaneously for approximate comparison.
