How to distinguish “Selvage” and “Cut Edge” of stainless steel screen

HEBEI MAISHI is a professional stainless steel screen manufacturer. During production, there are selvage and cut edge type. Now we will talk how to distinguish them.

From the name, we can know selvage as wrapped or closed. “Selvage edge” refers to the edge or border of wire cloth that has a finished edge. When wire cloth is woven, the weft wires are woven in, continuously, forming a smooth edge that runs the length of the roll while helping to prevent unraveling on certain specifications. Generally speaking, a selvage edge will increase the stability of a stainless steel screen and provide a safety edge for handling. It is also called looped selvage. The selvage edge is usually made for low mesh count. When the hole size is big and the wire is thin, a selvage edge can effectively stop the edge wire from coming out. So it is more steady.

“Cut edge” is easier to understand. It refers to edging that is cut, not continuously woven. It is usually the result of manufacturing stainless steel screen on a rapier loom. In this case, the weft wires are uncovered. The cut edge is the predominant edge type in the industry. Meshes can be cut from a wider width, so the mesh width is more flexible.

An easier way to distinguish the two edges is from the photos, and our sales will show you the difference.
